Good questions

Before you start a project

Do interior framing, drywall and demolition jobs need a permit?

Often, yes, and the rule is set by your city. Atlanta's code makes it unlawful to alter, repair or demolish a building without a building permit, and Smyrna lists interior remodeling and demolition as permitted work. Sandy Springs does not require a permit for painting or new carpet when no wiring or plumbing pipes are altered. Each town page names its permit office so you can confirm before work starts.

Which towns do you quote?

Atlanta, Sandy Springs, College Park, East Point, Decatur, Smyrna and Marietta. Each has its own page with the local permit office, neighborhoods and building context.

How are contractors licensed in Georgia?

Georgia licenses residential and commercial general contractors through the Secretary of State's Georgia Board of Residential and Commercial General Contractors, with four categories: Residential Basic, Residential Light Commercial, Commercial General Contractor and Commercial General Contractor Limited Tier. A license is not required for work that qualifies as a specialty trade. Ask any contractor you hire for their licence details and check them with the board.
